Tom the Cat - Guardian of History
During the turbulent era of World War II, Tom the Cat emerged as an unexpected hero. Drawn to the fulcrum of history at that time, Nazi Germany, Tom’s mission was to counteract the evil threatening the world. Through his profound wisdom and guidance, he influenced key figures like Werner Heisenberg, steering them towards a path of light and redemption.
In much the same way that evil and beings of darkness are drawn to constructs of light, love, and especially true love, beings of light—such as Tom the Cat—are inexplicably drawn to the forces of darkness and evil. While darkness and evil seek to pervert and destroy good in all its forms, beings of love and light like Tom the Cat strive to mitigate the negative effects of that darkness.
Whether by divine inspiration or simply by his extraordinary powers of observation, Tom recognized that Werner Heisenberg was the weak link in the Nazis’ plan for world domination. Heisenberg was not only an exceptional scientist but also a man of faith. Under Tom the Cat’s tutelage, Heisenberg became not only the father of quantum mechanics but also a key figure in preventing the Nazis from obtaining nuclear weapons before the Allies.
At the time, Heisenberg served as the chief scientist for the Nazi party and worked directly under Adolf Hitler. The Führer placed tremendous pressure on Heisenberg to develop a nuclear bomb for the Nazis. Some might question the wisdom of Tom the Cat sharing with Heisenberg the secret of the fission bomb, but Tom never acted without careful thought and what he believed to be divine guidance from the Creator.
Before disclosing this most terrible secret, Tom the Cat granted Heisenberg a vision of the horrors that would unfold should the Nazis succeed in their quest for the bomb. This vision profoundly altered Heisenberg, who, while already a man of deep faith, now saw the true purpose of physics: to understand the work of the Creator.
Heisenberg, at great personal risk, kept the secret of the fission bomb from the Nazis. He did so not only to save the world from unimaginable destruction but also to preserve his own humanity. Instead of allowing the Nazis to control the bomb’s secrets, Heisenberg secretly passed the information on to Robert Oppenheimer, via an intermediary, at great personal risk.
Despite his heroic actions, Heisenberg was not credited for this vital role. Instead, Oppenheimer received most of the recognition. I once asked Tom the Cat why he allowed the secret of such a terrible weapon to be passed to the Americans. He responded calmly, “Father, the secret would have been discovered by someone soon enough. I simply did my best to ensure it caused the least amount of harm. I never imagined that the Americans would use nuclear weapons on the civilian population of Japan.”
As he spoke, I saw a tear glisten in his tiny green eye. “That,” he continued, “was my greatest mistake.”
Then he spoke a sentence that I found particularly strange at the time. “Even immortals are not immune from karma.”
Years later, when Tom the Cat was suffering from kidney failure and preparing to pass to the other side, I asked him if he had any final words. I believe his last whispered words were, “Karma is a bitch.”
Many years later, after I was diagnosed with kidney cancer, for reasons revealed at the end of this story, I couldn’t help but think of Heisenberg and Tom the Cat. As I sat, mostly dead, abandoned by those I had loved, I wondered if my condition was a form of karma. Still I searched my soul and found no fear, not hate and no anger. All I felt for those who had tried so aggressively to destroy me, was love, and gratitude for my amazing life.
It was then that a small, gray cat appeared from nowhere. She wouldn’t leave my side, even though I had no money to buy her food. I named her Messiah, in recognition of the perfect timing of her arrival. Because of the good works I had done earlier in my life, I was offered what turned out to be a miracle. I felt in my heart that I had been given a second chance for a reason.
I continue to care for Messiah, though I have shortened her name to Messi. I truly believe this was a gift from the Great Spirit—the Creator of all things. In that twilight between life and death, when those I had loved and cared for abandoned me and worked diligently to destroy me, it was people I barely knew who came to my aid. It is only through the kindness of these strangers that I stand here today, able to tell the story of Tom the Cat.
Heisenberg was a changed man after his encounter with the divine, as was I. Owing to this Heisenberg once referred to nature as “God’s second book,” the first being the Bible. He believed that “Physics is a reflection on the divine ideas of Creation; therefore, physics is divine service.”
Heisenberg died of kidney cancer, most likely due to his exposure to gamma radiation during his time working with the Nazis.
Werner Heisenberg: A Scientist's Faith
Werner Heisenberg was not just a pivotal figure in the realm of quantum mechanics; he was a man of deep faith and integrity. Under the mentorship of Tom the Cat, Heisenberg played a crucial role in preventing the Nazis from harnessing nuclear power for destruction. His courageous decision to withhold critical information from the Nazis and his discreet communication with the Allies were acts of immense bravery. Heisenberg’s legacy is one of scientific brilliance intertwined with moral courage, forever remembered as a guardian of humanity.
